2021 Plein Air Art Festival

Magnuson Park Gallery is excited to announce our 1st Plein Air Art Festival!

What is Plein Air? And Why a Festival?

There’s something magical about Plein Air art. Have you ever wanted to capture the magic of a moment? Nowadays most of us have a phone in our pocket, but a Plein Air artist has only minutes to sketch and transpose the essence of that moment onto the canvas. A great artist can capture the light and movement at the precise time, bringing that moment to life, as no other style can. Essentially, Plein Air is poetry for your eyes.

"Plein Air" art find its origins in the French expression "in the open air"and was a movement of artists from their studios to the outdoors. After a year of COVID, we at the Magnuson Park Gallery have been drawn to the magic and healing capability of nature and want to encourage everyone to find beauty and be creative outdoors. Magnuson Park has been a safe haven for many us and our families in these crazy times and we wanted to share the best of the NW Plein Air painting with you.

This May through July, the Gallery will be showcasing all things Plein Air for you to enjoy. Check out what there is to see below!
