Po-Yan Tsang is an artist who has spent most of her life in three different cities: Hong Kong, Toronto, and Seattle. As someone who loves the outdoors and nature but spent most of her time in populated cities, her recent works explore her relationship with nature and the Pacific Ocean, as well as with single use plastics that permeate our modern lives. Po-Yan’s works start from direct observation, through painting plein air, still life setups, or reference sketches and photos she takes herself.
Blues urges viewers to question what home feels like and the power of living in close proximity to the ocean, while simultaneously reflecting on how single-use plastics play into our daily lives. The blue-dominant color palette elicits a melancholic and moody environment, perfect to ruminate on how our use of plastic impacts nature, and in turn, our homes.
