About:

I'm an artist who has been creating as long as I can remember. These days I am working primarily in pastel and clay. I joined the Building 30 West community in 2018 and the joys of a dedicated studio have proved to be bountiful for my creative process and unmatched for my general wellbeing.

Throughout my life, I have done many types of art. As a child, inspiration came from my artistic mother, who did portraits in oil. She posted on our refrigerator the quote from Hippocrates: “Life is short, Art is long." I understand that now more than ever.

In 1996, the Scientific Illustration Program at UW gave me the foundation to represent things accurately in drawing and painting. Working in watercolor, ink, colored pencil, and now pastels has given me a broad range of creative experience.

In 2002 I began my study of pottery technique from teachers in the Seattle area. Now that I have my personal studio, I have a pottery wheel of my own where I make functional ceramics for everyday use as well as decorative pieces for display. You can see some of my work on Instagram @gingernordberg.

Time in the studio makes me grateful: for the people who have helped make my dream a reality and for my incredible good fortune to have something I am passionate about. Come visit studio 210 to see what I'm working on!
